San Diego Revisited

So the weather has been getting nicer and Cheryl and I have been wanting to 'get away' for a little bit. We were pretty successful with our last attempt at a last-minute getaway weekend and ended up having a great time in San Diego. This time, we planned on heading to either Catalina Island or Santa Barbara however when we looked up the hotel prices, everything changed. Listen, I'll be the first person to throw discretion to the wind when it comes to pampering oneself, but even I have a hard time dropping a few hundred dollars on a spur-of-the-moment weekend trip. We decided that we would save our money for our big vacation at the end of summer and head to San Diego again. We still had some things we wanted to do from the last time we were down there so I booked a great deal at the La Quinta and off we went.

Once we got into town, we headed to our new favorite Mexican restaurant - Cafe Coyote.

Shortly after this picture, the Mariachis came around to our table and played La Bamba. It was very romantic.

A great shot of the old church in Old Town. There was a wedding going on inside and the vintage car was waiting for the bride and groom.

The next stop was the cemetery down the street. Cheryl's dad had learned that some grave sites were located below the street using radar. The locations were marked with a small quarter sized plaque that read "grave site" - how original.

Next stop, the beautiful Hotel Del Coronado. Cheryl and I would love to one day spend the weekend here and relax in style.

The last thing that Cheryl and I wanted to do before leaving San Diego was visit the historic gas lamp district. Although there wasn't much to the gas lamps themselves, the downtown area was bustling with energy. It was the weekend before St. Patrick's day and the celebration was nearly full swing. After walking around for a bit, Cheryl and I decided on Italian for dinner. The restaurant we chose was called the Trattoria La Strada and the food was amazing. We got a table outside and sat enjoying each others company while we people-watched.

Although Cheryl was stuffed after dinner, I had just enough room for some Italian dessert: Ferrari
