Fresno Fruit Trail / 4th of July

Cheryl's mom and dad decided to come down to Fresno to celebrate the 4th of July at our place.  Since it was a long weekend, Tom asked if we could go on something called the Fruit trail.  Apparently, the city of Fresno, in conjunction with the surrounding cities of Clovis, Sanger, Kingsburg, and Reedley, have put together an in-depth map of all the locations of fruit stands, both large and small, and a little bio on each one.  Some fruit stands, like Simonian Farms, were large, well-established, and iconic fixtures in the Central Valley's rich agriculture heritage, while others were no more than seasonal roadside fruit huts.  So, we picked a half dozen locations, plotted a course, and hit the road.  First stop, Simonian Farms.

This Santa Fe train car brings back so many fond childhood memories -
one of which was the pumpkin patch my family would go to every year.

No agricultural landmark would be complete without plenty of
rusted old farming equipment and plenty of signage.

So much history in so many antiques.

Not to mention the incredible bicycle collection.  A serious collector for sure.

And of course, the fruit was absolutely delicious.

At another fruit stand, except this one caught our attention with their vegetables.

After a long day of driving around and gorging ourselves on samples, we headed back home with trunk full of fresh produce and a better appreciation for the amount of work it takes to be a farmer.
On Monday, we all enjoyed a delicious 4th of July BBQ with all the fixins.

After dinner, Michael, Tammy, and Adrina came over to help up set-off some fireworks.
Happy 4th of July Everyone and God Bless America!
