The Tank

Everybody's got a hobby, right? Even if you don't know what it is yet, trust me, you have one. Think about your busy life, and how little free time you have to do what we want. Now imagine someone giving you an extra 2 hours a day to do what you want. What would it be? That my friends, is your hobby. Even if you don't get to do it all the time, it's still a hobby. Although some of us might know what our hobby is, or even know what we want our hobby to be, some of actual have hobbies that we don't necessarily want to continue. It's what happens when we start getting lazy and letting the distractions of our life get in the way. For example, how many hours of TV do you watch a day. Guess what, if its two hours - that's your hobby. Goofing off on the internet, yup, hobby. Although that might not sound too bad - you have to wonder, is that the best use of my time. Well, these were the questions running through my mind these past few weeks and months. In preparation for the largest exam of my life, the Part 1 Dental Exam Boards, I have found myself needing some hobby to occupy the few hours a day I have to relax. Since video games and television leave me feeling wound up and unfulfilled, I have found another alternative - a fish tank. Not only does it provide me with a challenge, but offers me a new topic in which to do research - which in fulfills my desire to learn new things. On top of all that, the fish tank provides beauty and enjoyment for both Cheryl and me. This way, my hobby doesn't alienate my wife every time I have some free time. Win-win situation! Anyway, here are some pics of the tank in progress.

29 Gallon Glass Tetra Tank. Live crushed coral with small river rock. Hand picked lava rock and a giant fancy bamboo plant. 100 watt heater and dual whisper filters (30 gallon plus a 15 gallon from my previous tank). It will be a semi-aggressive cichlid tank.

After a week of running the set-up with the live
crushed coral, I added my first set of fish.
Two young clown loaches.
They so fast I couldn't get a decent shot of them.

A week later, my prized Tiger Pleco.

Check out the barbs on his pectoral fin.

My list:
This weekend: Black Calvus
Next week: Electric Blue Jack Demsey
Last: Tiger Oscar

Potential:
Blue Lobster

Stay tuned, its going to be amazing.
