I can't believe it's over. No more exams, no more late nights in the lab, and no more rush hour traffic on the 405. No more LA. The first time I drove into LA myself was for my dental school interview. I remember the overwhelming sense of complete disorientation and over-stimulation. The city was so busy, so hectic - everywhere you looked there were people, billboards, buildings, and traffic. After my interview Cheryl and I went to dinner at the Grinder, not out of choice but out of necessity. We were afraid that we would get lost if we ventured any further than a 1/4 mile from out hotel - which was less that a 1/4 mile from USC. Looking back, I can now confidently say that I know nearly every square inch of not only the campus but the surrounding neighborhoods in all directions. It's funny how our perception of a place changes with time. Because of Cheryl, I now have a fond memory in every one of those square inches. Travelling north took us through University Village which housed not only a schmorgesborg of delicious food vendors from around the world, but Superior Groceries, our local Hispanic market. We cant forget the many trips to both Starbucks and Baskin Robbins 31 flavors for an early morning pick-me-up or after lunch sweet treat. To the East, not much but industrial real estate and Highway 110 with its sneaky hidden carpool on-ramp to take us South (Traveling north on Figueroa from USC make a quick right just in-front of the McDonald's and then make another right at the light to catch the on-ramp). Since we are travelling south, we find the Coliseum where we spent many afternoons and evening cheering on our Trojans with 3 years of season tickets. Further south lie El Segundo, Manhattan Beach, and Hermosa Beach where we traveled often in an attempt to immerse ourselves in a true beach town. And to the west, lies Culver City and Marina Del Rey. This is the direction we traveled on our way home after a long day at school. On the crazy streets of both Jefferson and Rodeo where we racked up the miles and the memories. Any direction you go, Cheryl and I will have a story for you. What an incredible adventure to experience next to the most wonderful women I've know. I love you Cheryl and I will miss our time in SoCal.
