Disneyland in the Rain - Happy Birthday Cheryl!

Disneyland: What will you Celebrate?

Well, for starters, how bout Cheryl's birthday! This year, Disney is giving free admission to anyone on their birthday. So, what better time to visit the happiest place on earth than when your ticket is free? Unfortunately, it was raining - as you can probably tell by our matching ponchos, but that didn't stop us. As a matter of fact, before we left for the park, I googled "Disney in the rain" and was pleasantly surprised by the amount of positive feedback from people who had visited the soggy kingdom. "Sure it's wet, but short ride lines and reduced foot traffic made for a rather pleasant experience."

It had been about 8 years since the last time I had visited, but the moment we arrived, I felt like a kid again - Cheryl will probably say I acted more like one. It had been 23 years since Cheryl's last trip so I took on the responsibility as group guide. Our plan was simple, counterclockwise around the park.

Cheryl was given this nifty pin that said it was her birthday - well, her's and about a thousand other people. To see if Disneyland was up to the task of making her feel special, we decided to count how many people said Happy Birthday to her. The grand total: 33. Not bad considering that about 30 of those were from Disney Cast members - AKA employees.

Frontier Land

Taking the train was a nice way for us to rest our feet.

Then, just as we thought we'd spend the entire day wearing plastic - We had sun!

Toon Town

These mice were like celebrities. Complete with bodygaurds!

Big Thunder Mountain - Don't worry, the camera strap is around my wrist.

Nemo's Underwater Adventure.

Let me put you in a dark hole, spin you around for 2 minutes, then blind you with a camera flash. Let's see how photogenic you are?

Even the keychain rack knows we were meant to be together.

It's just like the beggining of the Disney movies.
Note: The older you get, the smaller the castle looks. I've seen suburban homes bigger than this.

By the end of the day, Cheryl and I were convinced that it had to be the most brilliant marketing idea since the invention of the billboard. I don't know too many people who go to Disneyland alone, that would be sad :( , which means that someone is there who wouldn't be otherwise. 1 is better than none. Right? Regardless, we had a fantastic time and were thoroughly exhausted when we got back home. Cheryl said it best, "I'm not three anymore." Happy Birthday beautiful.

Looks like fun. Hopefully we'll join you soon for a return visit. It will be a blast with the kids.

Was Toon Town in some sort of a Bio-Dome? I'm having a tough time buying the whole "bad weather / rainy day" thing when I look at the blue sky, dry ground and single little white cotton candy cloud drifting by in the picture of a not soggy Cheryl... : ]

Paul is the same way - he reverts back to a 9 year old, all the while telling me about all his childhood memories at the park!!!! We agree... it's a brilliant marketing ploy!
