Lately, our school has been a buzz with rumors as to the reason behind this "Big Announcement" that was to be revealed on Jan. 20
th. The entire school was scheduled to be closed for half of a day and every faculty, staff, student, and alumni was invited to the event. What could it be? The rumor mill soon began and I found myself wondering if ANYTHING was beyond possibility. The school is moving to the Health Sciences Center in downtown LA to be united with the Med School. Extreme Home Makeover "Dental School Edition" was going to demolish the entire building and build us a new one in a week. Steven
Spielberg and George Lucas, who just recently finished construction on two of three incredibly beautiful cinematic arts buildings, purchased our dental school and were going to level it so as to have a better view of the Hollywood sign from their offices. And finally, some rich old guy donated a huge chunk of change to the dental school and as a thank you, we named it after him.
Well, it's Jan. 24
th, and the cats out of the bag.

The President of
USC, some old rich guy, and Dean of the
USC Dental School, Dr.
Sadan.

Drum Roll Please.....

Introducing, the Herman
Ostrow (rich old guy) School of Dentistry of
USC.
Boooooo! Too much confetti :(
And for what overwhelmingly large amount of money can you get a dental school named after you? Play the clip...
This makes
USC, ahem, I mean The Herman
Ostrow School of Dentistry of
USC (HOSDUSC) the first dental school to be named AND the first dental school to receive such a large sum of money. Hey, we got free t-shirts. That's a start.
R.I.P USCSD - your abbreviation will be missed.
