Fair Oaks Pharmacy and Soda Fountain

2010. A new year. Also, the last full year Cheryl and I will live in Southern California. That being said, Cheryl and I have accrued a rather substantial list of "places to see". To add to the matter, we also have friends and family who have encourages us to visit certain places that they have heard about. Well, Cheryl's sister Marcie (Hi Marcie) had heard of this really cute/nostalgic business in Pasadena that we had to try out called, you guessed it, Fair Oaks Pharmacy and Soda Fountain.

Originally known as the Raymond Pharmacy throughout the 1920's and 30's, it was a popular rest stop on the westernmost end of route 66.

The Soda Fountain and Pharmacy.

This place was loaded with collectibles and trinkets. Books, toys, lawn ornaments - you name it and it was there.

When in Rome. Cheryl decided to have the Ice cream sundae with chocolate sauce, whipped cream and of course, a cherry on top.

I decided to try the Root Beer float. This was hands down, the most amazing float I have EVER had. The ice cream was incredibly fresh and the Root Beer tasted great. Don't take my word for it - look at this picture!

Whatever happened to the Soda Jerk, or as writer Michael Karl Witzel so eloquently called, "the consummate showman, innovator and freelance linguist... the pop culture star of the Gilded Age".

Well the truth is, he died with the McDonaldization of our great nation.
-Here is your cup Mr. order #45, you can get your own drink. Next in line please.

Cheryl's made me sundaes in the past (back in her Soda Jerk days), but I never got anything like those from her...

around 11 bucks for both. Steep, but worth it :)

$11 actually doesn't sound too bad after looking a the pictures.
