Fruits of my Labor - CDA Convention: Part 2
A little snippet of information I left out of the last blog was the reason I skipped out on the morning set of dental seminars. Although it was mostly to just peruse the vendor booths and get free dental stuff, I needed to visit a specific vendor before noon. A third year USC dental student by the name of Ron had started a profitable little business inventing and patenting a revolutionary headlamp for use with dental loupes which weighs less than a standard U.S. nickel. Anyway, the product was good and the price was good, so I purchased one last trimester in preparation for my clinical courses. Anyway, he had set-up a booth and was asking those dental students who had purchased his product AND were coming to the CDA convention to stop by the booth and get a raffle ticket. The reason, ingenious on his part, was to have us walk around the convention and create "buzz" about his revolutionary product. Our reward was a chance at winning one of several big screen flat panel TVs which would be raffled off at school the week after the convention. The more sales at the convention, the more TVs. Pretty simple. I did my part and convinced both my dad and sister to purchase one, both are satisfied, and was able to get another raffle ticket, doubling my chances. Unfortunately, Ron’s bulk order of Phillips LCD TV’s was cancelled due to some limitations…Booooooo…. So then he decided to just raffle off the cash he would’ve used to purchase the TVs… Yeeeaaaaaahhhh. To make a long story longer, I not only won one of five $460 dollar checks, but he gave all of us 2GB jump drive. How awesome is that? Needless to say, the cash was a much better outcome than an extra TV and Cheryl and I went out to dinner to celebrate. In-N-Out baby!
